The Monterey Pine tree grows to 100ft (30m). The mature trees have a dense high dome with many branches; younger trees have a more conical shape. Needles are straight and set closely together in groups of three. In Britain the tree grows very quickly and in the south west continues to grow throughout most of the year. The Monterey pines rapid growth dense needles and ability to withstand exposure at low altitudes (especially near the sea) make it ideal for planting in rows to form a windbreak.
