Sea Buckthorn grows to approximately 8ft (2.5m) It produces orange berries which stay on all winter. It is able to sucker and spreads by growing new bushes from outlying roots. In this way it soon stabilises the ground, binding the soil together with its roots and thus forming thickets. Commonly seen along coastal sandy sites which is its natural habitat. Being able to fix nitrogen it is an excellent and valuable coloniser of bare ground - improving the fertility and allowing other plants to follow.
